Children's Summer Camp! This weekend program is geared towards children aged 5 - 15 years old. The program is designed to teach children the responsibilities around owning a puppy through fun and dynamic activities! These responsibilities include: 1) Canine Nutrition: appropriate foods and treat, diets, current foods on the market, BARF diets; 2) Canine Health: the importance of vaccines, spay/neutering, parasites, and regular veterinarian health checks; 4) Canine Training: house training, leash training, exercise training, socialization, clicker training; 4) Canine Exercise: different types of exercise options for dogs and breed-specific options; 5) Dog-Owning Legislation: municipal law, regulations, public parks. Children will have the unique opportunity to apply these concepts to MUSHERS' dogs, gaining hands on experience. Children will be learning through age-appropriate games, arts, crafts, movies, and mini-contests (dog shows!). All will be meals included (with a menu provided), over night camping accommodations, washroom facilities, and outdoor showers available. Children arrive at 7:30 pm on Fridays, and leave at 2 pm on the Sundays. There are 8 sessions to choose from through out the summer, starting Friday, July 2nd, 2010 and finishing Sunday, August 29th, 2010. Upon booking, you will be sent a list of items to send with your child so they may enjoy their experience. You will also be emailed a registration form and liability waiver that will need to be signed and faxed/mailed back to us within 7 days of your child's camp date. Prices $100.00 per child, to a maximum of 15 children each weekend. Learn To Be A Musher (Intro) - Running September 4th - December 5thThis 16-hour course introduces you to the various aspects involved in being a musher with hands on experience! You'll learn aspects of sled dog nutrition, health & injuries, hygiene, behaviour, communication, exercise and sled training, socialization and rehabilitation, and camping/survival skills (with winter particulars). You'll also get to try out some of the more physically demanding aspects, including: regular kennel maintenance, non-regular kennel maintenance, bridge construction, trail mapping, trail cutting, trail clearing, and storage building construction. We will be running these classes every weekend through out the autumn months. We can accommodate up to 10 people each weekend. We have a minimum age requirement of 16 years, as some of the activities are not suitable for children. Prices $150.00 per participant, and a canteen will be available with meals, snacks, and drinks. All appropriate materials and equipment will be supplied, though you will be responsible for dressing appropriately (we will provide a clothing list).
